Machine Perfusion
Organs can remain transplant-useful when circulation and tissue function are restored outside the body. Recovering viable parts is a different—and narrower—problem than reviving the organism they once sustained.
An hour after pigs had died, their hearts, kidneys, livers, and other organs were revived. The pigs themselves did not return to life: biological function restarted locally without restoring the whole animal.
E1Restart circulation, not the whole organism
Machine perfusion separates two problems that death normally bundles together. Instead of attempting to reconstruct every dependency required for an organism to live, it restores or maintains the smaller set of conditions an organ needs: circulation and functioning tissue. That distinction matters because tissue damage and responses such as inflammation unfold at the level of individual organs, while life depends on their coordination as a system. Perfusion preserves the part without claiming to recover the whole.

The result does not erase death or show that complete organisms can be restarted. In the reported experiment, several organs recovered function after an hour, but the pigs did not come back to life. The boundary is the model’s point: local recoverability says nothing by itself about whether the full system—and the coordination among its parts—can be restored.
