Appeal to Nature mental-model
Naturalness is not evidence of health. Judge food by its composition, production process, and effects—not by whether its packaging contrasts “natural” with “processed.”
-
Fiber as a rate-limiter mechanism
Fiber is fruit’s built-in rate limiter: it slows sugar absorption and makes excessive intake physically harder. Juicing preserves the sugar while removing much of the constraint that made consuming it tolerable.
-
Homeostasis mechanism
Homeostasis is the body's tight control of internal variables such as blood pH. A diet that could substantially override that control would cause a medical crisis, not improved wellness.
-
A ritual can preserve useful knowledge until technology absorbs the job it encoded. After that, the same step may retain value as taste or identity, but it no longer provides its original benefit.
-
Cui bono (who bears the cost of a 'tradition') mental-model
When a tradition imposes recurring labor, ask who performs it and who enjoys the resulting comfort, virtue, or status. A practice may persist as “healthy” or “authentic” because the people enforcing it are insulated from its cost.
-
For health, judge added or concentrated sugar by its molecules and dose, not by the story attached to its source. Replacing white sugar with jaggery, brown sugar, honey, or fruit juice may change taste, but it does not remove the underlying sugar.
-
Generic food rules can mislead because glucose responses vary by person and by meal context. Logging meals against CGM readings creates a personal cause-and-effect map that can reveal which combinations produce different responses for you.
-
Placebo effect mechanism
Expectation can produce genuine perceived relief even when a remedy has no active ingredient. Feeling better therefore does not prove the treatment worked; the test is whether it performs better than belief and natural recovery.
