Homeostasis
Homeostasis is the body's tight control of internal variables such as blood pH. A diet that could substantially override that control would cause a medical crisis, not improved wellness.
An “alkaline” diet promises to improve your health by changing your body’s pH. But a meaningful shift in that pH would not be evidence that the diet was working—it could kill you.
E1The variable your body cannot surrender
Blood pH is not a wellness dial that food should freely turn. The body actively keeps it within a narrow viable range, correcting disturbances rather than allowing each meal to redefine its internal chemistry. That tight regulation is homeostasis: physiological control systems defend critical variables because ordinary cellular function depends on them.
This reverses the alkaline-diet sales pitch. The body’s success at maintaining pH is not proof that the diet changed it; it is the reason dietary claims about meaningfully changing it are implausible. If an intervention truly pushed a life-critical variable beyond the range the body can manage, the result would be loss of function rather than optimization.
E1Where it shows up
The alkaline-diet contradiction
The claim borrows authority from a real fact—pH matters enormously—while ignoring the mechanism that makes it matter: the body already regulates it. The more consequential the promised pH change, the less it resembles a dietary benefit and the more it resembles physiological failure.
E1Regulated does not mean invulnerable
Homeostasis is powerful, not magical. The supplied evidence supports the narrow claim that the body manages pH without an alkaline diet; it does not show that every internal variable is immune to diet, disease, or extreme disturbances.
E1Interrogate the promised measurement
When a product claims to “balance” or change your body’s pH, ask which compartment is being measured and whether a sustained change there would be healthy. If the pitch cannot distinguish a harmless reading from the tightly regulated internal variable, do not treat that ambiguity as evidence of benefit.

'If the pH of your body changes you will die... the body does an excellent job of managing the pH on its own, you don't need to have an alkaline diet.'
