Separate expert selection from identity conflict

Politicization changes the question from “Who understands this problem?” to “Whose side is this person on?” A professional institution interrupts that shift: it uses neutral selection mechanisms to make relevant expertise, rather than popular identity alignment, the basis of authority. The principle is not that experts are automatically right. It is that the procedure for choosing them should not reward whichever identity coalition can mobilize the most pressure.
