Active Luck

mechanism Also known as Active Luck (Manufacturing Serendipity)

Active luck is luck you manufacture by increasing the number and variety of attempts. Each attempt adds experimental surface area, making an unusually good outcome more likely to appear.

Failure can be evidence that your luck is improving. When producing more means running more experiments, every miss adds another route by which an unexpected hit can arrive.

E1

Give chance more surfaces to strike

Active luck is not control over outcomes; it is control over exposure. Increasing quantity creates more trials, while varying those trials explores more of the possibility space. Most attempts may fail, but the larger and more varied set raises the odds that one combination works unusually well—the form of manufactured fortune the episode calls “luck number two.”

E1

More motion is not the same as progress

Quantity helps only when attempts function as experiments. Repeating an identical failure without variation or learning may increase activity without meaningfully increasing the surface area on which luck can operate.

E1

Add three distinct shots

Choose one outcome you want and make three materially different attempts tomorrow—change the audience, format, method, or timing. Treat each result as evidence for the next round, not as a verdict on your ability.
