Making or testing an idea converts assumed understanding into observable performance. The attempt exposes missing details, forcing abstract confidence to answer to concrete feedback.

Passive study lets your mind preserve a smooth explanation because nothing demands that each step actually work. Creation removes that protection: you must choose procedures, handle edge cases, and compare an outcome with what you expected. Each mismatch marks the true edge of your competence. Like the testing-effect, the value comes partly from attempted performance and visible failure—not merely further exposure to the answer. Those corrections can then feed knowledge-compounding by giving later ideas more precise structures to connect with.
E1Doing is a diagnostic, not a substitute for study
An attempt can reveal that your model is incomplete, but it cannot by itself supply every missing fact. In this case, experimentation made the gaps visible; careful rereading of the paper was still required to repair them. The useful cycle is not action instead of learning, but action directing learning toward the details that matter.

Tomorrow, take one claim you believe you understand and build the smallest test of it: reproduce a result, explain every procedural step, or make a working example. Before checking the source again, record exactly where you became uncertain or your result diverged; use those points—not a general reread—as your study list.
