Repeated specialization can lower the cost of production because focus and repetition improve how the work is done. The learning curve is the compounding efficiency gained by doing a narrower task again and again.

The surprising claim is not merely that specialists get better: the thing itself gets cheaper as specialization deepens. What looks like a price story is also a learning story—the accumulated effect of repeatedly solving the same production problem.

Specialization concentrates effort on a narrower activity. Repetition then exposes recurring steps, giving producers more chances to refine methods and eliminate effort. automaticity can compress familiar execution, while consistent repetition keeps the improvement cycle running. When production is also split through division of labour, each specialist can carry that accumulated efficiency into one part of the final output. The result is a learning curve: greater specialization is associated with falling production cost.
